I completed my yoga teacher training in Nicaragua almost one year ago. It’s surreal to think how such an impactful event in my life has come and gone so quickly, yet I think about it all the time. The effects of this training on my life rolled through with such great force, and I still find myself stepping back and reflecting on how my life has changed since then.
Yoga Bag c/o Gaiam | Outfit c/o Athleta | Poofy Hair c/o Humidity Hi Guys! It’s been a busy, busy week. Actually, it’s been a very busy two months. From Kentucky to a yoga retreat Upstate NY to Kentucky again, then straight to Ecuador and onto Florida, and finally…. Texas. It’s been a well-traveled summer to say the least! I love it, but I’m excited for a bit of downtime. This is my first “free” weekend in a looong time. Although, I am actually working. On my blog. #WhatzNew #ButYay I’ve managed to take my booty to the yoga studio, despite my rollercoaster schedule – and for that, I’m proud. There was even a day I biked to class in the hot hot heat (one hour round trip). So, it got me thinking… it’d be fun to share what’s in my personal yoga bag.
I know it’s Tuesday, but I want to tell you just how much I love SATURDAYS (because *SPOILER* I whipped up this gif on a Saturday!) I love Saturday mornings SO much. I get to sleep in (although I’m usually up by 8am), I relax on my couch with my morning french-pressed coffee, and then I get my yoga onnnn. One of my favorite yoga transitions is crow to headstand, so I thought I’d share a fun little gif of this variation. Arm balances can be tricky in the morning if you’re not yet balanced or warmed up, so make sure to do a few rounds of sun salutations (with chaturanga dandasana), crescent lunges (maybe with a prayer twist), and really get warm and fluid in the limbs. *Maybe I’ll do a little sequence for you this month.
For the past week, I have been finding secret ways to get a few mini exercises in at work….and I must say I am feeling the burn! Here is what I do: 1. Every time I go to the bathroom I do 20 squats (in the stall…so no one walks in and thinks “esta chica es loca”). I drink a lot of water/have the bladder of a baby squirrel so I pee about 6 times throughout the workday. Let’s see…..that averages about 120 squats a day? I’ll take it. This is my favorite and most accessible workout – and a few coworkers have already joined my Secret Stall Squatters Society.
