Hello lovely people! I am so excited to start this fun new series of posts I like to call, #ZenFriends. I have some pretty amazing people in my life, so my idea is to spotlight these kind, compassionate, and inspiring beings in hopes that other people will find inspiration from their words, blurbs and advice. Without further adieu, here is the first of my #ZenFriends:
– MEET MEL –
Mel is the brains behind the yoga & lifestyle blog Headstands & Heels. Originally from Florida, she moved to the city nearly a year ago to continue her career in PR, and now manages the social media accounts of a global beauty brand. Her yoga journey began 3 years ago and eventually led to the creation of her blog where she shares yoga tips, beauty reviews, healthy eats, and other motivating posts to inspire women who are also trying to find the key to living a healthy, fun and well balanced life.
YOGA SUPER POWER: Strong & Elegant
HOW SHE INSPIRES: Reminds us to live life with grace and to always point our toes. 🙂
ZODIAC SIGN: Cancer
Q: How did we meet?
A: We officially met during a game night at the company where both of our boyfriends work, but I had obviously heard about the 1/2 Korean, yoga loving, marketing girl who was a lot like me prior to that! Coincidentally, our significant others work on the same team and had been telling each other that we needed to meet for a while – so naturally we became “Insta-friends” before meeting in person. 🙂
Q: Describe yourself in three words.
A: Hmm, that’s a tough one! My initial thoughts are: ambitious, empathetic, creative… although, my boyfriend immediately said “girly” when describing me, which in all fairness is very true.
Q: Quote that you live by?
A: “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” ~ Philippians 4:13
Q: Three goals of 2016, personal or professional?
A: 1) Obtain a leadership position at work 2) Finally be able to do the splits 3) Travel somewhere new and exciting
Q: Favorite indulgence?
A: Chocolate. Always.
Q: Song you last listened to?
A: “Time to pretend” by MGMT (because I was feeling nostalgic for early college days)
Q: Tips for overcoming fear and going after your passions?
A: The best things in life often require a leap of faith – so my tip would be to wholeheartedly believe in the power you have to do whatever you set your mind to. Surround yourself with people who support and encourage you to pursue your passion, and make a list of the steps it’ll take to reach your goal. The first step into the unknown is always the most difficult, but once you harness your inner confidence and learn to face your fears head on, there’s really nothing you can’t accomplish.
Q: Favorite place in the world to visit?
A: This may sound cliche but there’s really no place like home – so naturally my favorite place to visit will always be Florida.
Q: Complete the sentence – “You know it’s true love when…”
A: …you bring out the best in each other.
Q: If you were an emoji, you’d be…
A: Unicorn 🙂
